Message	put car in neutral. Now if im doing a sudden stop i don't let the brakes pull the engine down, instead I push the clutch and brake and put the car in neutral all at the same time. Engine goes to 1k automatically and the car slows down fast without any strain on the engine. this is ONLY if it's a sudden stop. If it's a normmal stop, then I just leave it in gear till it gets low as stated above.
